Located just north of Winter Park and ten minutes from downtown, the city of Maitland is dotted with lakes, which feed into Howell Branch Creek, a quaint waterway that feeds nearby Lake Howell.
The area was once called Fumecheliga (Musk Mellon Place) by the Seminole Indians.
There are just over 3,000 single-family homes in Maitland, with an average value of about $264,400 (Year 2005). Professionals with families enjoy the close proximity to both Orlando and Winter Park.

Lake Lily is the site of the annual Maitland Art and Fine Crafts Festival, held each spring. Maitland is in the process of expanding their senior's center as well.
The Maitland Art Center is one of the few surviving examples of "fantasy" architecture in the Southeast, the Center has been recognized by the State of Florida as a historic site and has been entered on the National Register of Historic Places. It features Mayan/Aztec motifs and includes 23 separate structures linked by beautiful gardens and courtyards.
